DBT rests on four skill sets: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. In individual sessions we teach these skills directly and apply them to what is actually happening in your week.
The “dialectic” in DBT is the balance between accepting yourself as you are and working toward change. For teens especially, that balance is powerful. We offer DBT-informed individual therapy in person in Johnston and virtually statewide.
You will leave sessions with named skills you can use the same day. Many clients keep a skills card in their phone and notice themselves reaching for it within the first few weeks.
No. DBT was originally developed for BPD, but its skills help with anxiety, depression, anger, trauma responses, and emotional intensity of all kinds.
We currently offer DBT-informed individual therapy. Reach out and we can discuss whether a skills group elsewhere would complement your work with us.
